About Sting... The 2021 BYC Mackinac Race presents a mix of old and new but experienced crew for the storied Catalina 38 "STING", and owner/Skipper Mike Bouckaert, In the mid to late 80's, Mike and the previous owner with his son's Dave and Steve Lange along with his group enjoyed great success on "STING" while crewing together for Dave and Steve's father- original "STING" owner Ken Lange on Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay. For thirteen years this team gained racing experience while sailing together aboard the "Lange" boats "EVADER", "PHANTOM", and "STING".

In a welcome twist of fate in the spring of 2015 Mike Bouckaert was able to purchase "STING" and return it to active sailing on Saginaw Bay. The 2021 MAC again commissions this boat on the open lake in the BYC Mackinac Race. The 2018 and 2019 BYC-Mac race added to "STING'S" experience of several BYC-Mac races that have accumulated over a 20 year period starting in the 1990's. The 2021 race will begin with a solid group of young and older experienced sailors with an emphasis on family all with both Small and Big boat experience

Mike Bouckaert has 25+ years of active sailboat racing experience ranging from HobieCats to daysailers to 40'+ boats. This will be Mike's 8th BYC Mac race, and his third as owner/skipper of "STING". Mike sails "STING" out of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. Mike's son Dylan has taken an active interest in the sport and also joins the crew.

Brothers Dave and Steve Lange have a combined 50+ years of active sailboat racing experience, ranging from Optimist Prams to Lightnings to 40' PHRF boats. Dave also has BYC-Mac experience and is currently the owner/skipper of the Tartan Ten "Mechanical Music" that races out of the Bay City Yacht Club. Dave's sons Konnor and Kameron and daughter Khloe entered the sport actively 6 years ago and will also crew aboard STING

This year "STING" welcomes Charlie Case as returning crew and Colette Symborski on her first Mac aboard STING
