About Ohana... Ohana, a Santa Cruz 70 sailing out of Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, was the 10th of 19 such vessels designed and built by Bill Lee. Launched in 1989 under the name Chance, her inaugural victories in the '89 Cal Cup and Transpac affirmed her pedigree. Owners Tor and Laurie Hough and their dedicated crew continue to uphold Ohana's long and distinguished Great Lakes racing history, treating her with the respect befitting her legacy.

In Hawaiian culture, 'Ohana signifies more than just family—it represents a community bound by mutual support and collective responsibility. This ethos encapsulates the spirit of the Houghs' sailing program, fostering an environment of respect and camaraderie among some of the finest sailors on the Great Lakes. Each crew member brings their unique character and talent to the collective, with shared experiences and mutual dedication creating an 'Ohana that extends beyond the conventional team. This commitment to each other, deepening with each wind gust and navigational challenge, mirrors the enduring vastness of the lakes they traverse. It is not just a sailing crew—it's an 'Ohana on the water.
