A V A T A R continues a five decade tradition of Mackinac racing in 2025 fueled by a crew of four Old Goats and more than 150 Mackinac races shared among them. Avatar finished first in class, second overall in the Shore Division in 2004, second in class in 2022 and 2016 and third in class in 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024. BenJAMMIN is named after my grandson Benjamin who was born the same year the boat was purchased. Ben is 27 now but BenJAMMIN is actually 39. The crew ranges in age from 20 to 78. We spontaneously read a page out of Moby Dick during the race. The page is chosen by boat speed. Melville's words are often strangely appropriate. Looking forward to a great adventure.

Damn Yankee is a Farr 60 built in 1998 by Carroll Marine. She was originally named Deep Powder and raced out of Chicago. She has had several names since then, including Prospector when she raced in the TransAtlantic, Middle Sea Race and the Caribbean 600 and recently she was known as Thunderstruck. This is the third of the Damn Yankee Yachts to receive the name. It is her second Bayview under present ownership. The crew has been making the trek from Buffalo New York since 2008 on DY1 and DY2. They are looking forward to continuing our journey with DY 3.

I will be sailing "Desilou" sail number of 1821. She was formerly known as Split Decision out of Chicago Yacht Club that raced in several Chicago to Mackinac races. Desilou sailed in the 2022 and 2024 Bayview to Mac race and the 2023 Chicago to Mac race, I consider myself new to Great Lakes sailing. I and two of our crew members originate from California and competed in several blue water sailing races that include Transpacific Races and Newport Beach to Ensenada. We have been joined by several longtime competitive great sailors from Cleveland area.

Faith is a Taswell 56 ocean-capable sailboat with a rich history of racing and cruising. She was commissioned by owner Geoff Hill from Australia. Originally named Antipodes of Sydney, she sailed around the world and raced under owner Geoff Hill and skipper Glenn Belcher. Faith competed in three Rolex Sydney to Hobart races under the name Antipodes (including the infamous 1998 race). She also took first place overall in the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s first crossing of the Atlantic, following his route through Porto Santo, Madeira, and the Canary Islands to San Salvador and the Bahamas. Antipodes also raced in numerous Caribbean races. The Grangers then purchased the boat in 2002 and renamed her Faith. The Granger family spent over 4 years cruising around the world to sixty-five countries and participated in several Caribbean races and rallies. Gregg Granger then wrote a book, "Sailing Faith: The Long Way Home," about their travels. Gregg and his crew are seasoned sailors and racers, and this will be the first Port Huron to Mackinaw race with SV Faith.

Previous Fast Tango's have won and placed in a number of Port Huron to Mac races. This Fast Tango is making it's 18th appearance (as Fast Tango) in this year's Port Huron to Mackinac race, having won our class in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2022, and in 2023 not only won our class, but also Division 1, and 2024. The crew includes several Old Goats, Double Goats, and some future Old Goats. We have over four hundred years of combined BYC/CYC Mac experience on board. Win or lose, we'll have fun and enjoy the race. I remember doing my 1st BYC Mac race in 1983; I had so much fun, I swore I'd never miss another. Thankfully, I haven't, and this will be my 44th.

This is Killing Me Softly's second season, and second BYC Mackinac race. We have been racing Manitou in the Bayview Mackinac Race since 2009. The boat is owned by past Bayview Yacht Club Commodore John C. Burke. This will be his 48th Mackinac Race. We have a well seasoned crew with over 135 collective Mackinac Races between us. The crew is made up of family and close friends that have been sailing together for many years. Between us we have many first, second, and third place finishes as well as some overall wins. Manitou is an Algonquian Indian word meaning spirit. Northern Spy is a Dufour 45E built in 2009 launched in 2010. She was located in the Netherlands when the owner saw her for sale. Shipped across the ocean she arrived in Detroit in May 2015. The owner having Dutch heritage gave her the sail number NED (Netherlands) and 131 (hull #). Regarding the boat's name, the owner's brother (who was born in the Netherlands) has a red hulled boat that is the color of a MacIntosh, apple not computer. So keeping it in the family, Northern Spy is also named for an apple.

Reletntless is a 2004 C&C 121 crewed by a mix of military combat veterans and family - sailors bound together by service, sacrifice and purpose. We sail in honor and memory of Charles Daudert - known to many as "UC". A special thanks to Mnemonix for meeting all of the teams IT needs. This years race is especially meaningful as it marks an important milestone for our team and was made possible through the support and partnership of the William T and Frances A Little Foundation. Their belief in our mission has helped turn a vision into something real, durable and impactful. Relentless is the flagship of Project Relentless, a Veteran run 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about Veteran Suicide. Every single day 17 veterans are lost to suicide in the United States. That number is not just unacceptable - it's personal. We are using our passion for sailing to start conversations, build community and remind people that our veterans are still here - and still worth fighting for! This race is not just about reaching the island. It's about honoring those we have lost, standing beside those still fighting, and refusing to accept silence as the status quo. We are Relentless.

History: The name "ROWDY" comes from a former Bayview boat; a 61' J-40 owned by former BYC member Ril Wigle, and chartered by Val and other teenagers for 2-week trips on Lakes Huron & Michigan and Georgian Bay, in the late 1950's. That boat was noted for its leopard skin interior, wild parties and having come close to going over Niagara Falls until the anchor held when Ril took a wrong turn. It now resides in Europe after an extensive refit. The current Rowdy is a Thomas 35 raced in the Mackinac Race since 1990. It has taken first place in its class in 1991, 1993, 2007 and 2018. Most of the current crew have raced on Rowdy for many years. Former crew member Kent Herzer, who was lost off this boat on a return trip after a Mackinac race, is still sorely missed by everyone. ROWDY is proud to represent Port Huron Yacht Club, which has always warmly welcomed the Bayview/Mackinac racers to Port Huron. ROWDY crew is excited to compete in the 101st running, as we commemorate the lives of 3 former crew that passed away last year: Skipper Val A. Saph and Crew Members Joe Banka and Darren Shavinski.

Shape was acquired in November 2000 and raced each year since 2001 in the Port Huron - Mackinac race. A few Old Goats on-board, a couple getting close. This is Team Sirocco's 6th time competing in the Bayview Mac Race. The skipper Bob Klairmont grew up sailing with his mother and father and has sailed all of his life. Bob did his first Chicago Mac race in 1972 with his parents aboard the yacht Elaine May. Since then Bob has done 25 Chicago Mac races, three Trans Superior races, 5 Bayview Mac Races, one Barthel Tri-Lakes Challenge, 26 Queen's Cup races, 5 Hundred Miler races, one The Hook race, several SORC races (in the 1970's), hundreds of buoy races, hundreds of boat deliveries on the water to and from races and lots of cruising and more. Bob is thrilled to be sailing in this great race!

The boat "Stars & Stripes" was commissioned in 1983 by BYC member Bill Martain, it is the "original" Stars & Stripes. It was the 1984 Canada's Cup Challenger. In 1987 Denis Connor asked for the right to use the name in his American's Cup Challange. The boat was designed by Nelson Marek and sail by both Bruce Nelson and Bruce Marek. It was built by Cookson in New Zealand. In 2021 current owner, and BYC member, Daniel Mercier purchased the boat that was located in Newport RI, transported it back to the Great Lakes and had it restored from the keel to the masthead. He and his crew are excited to be racing this historic boat in the Mackinaw race.

Underdog is a Canadian C&C 35 Mk1. Underdog has raced the Bayview Mackinac over 18 years with Cameron Paine as skipper, several crew have over 20 years experience. Underdog was 1st in Division II and the Corinthian Trophy Winner in 2025. Underdog placed first in class in 2025, 2024, 2022 and 2019. We look forward to another competitive one design race. The orginal Underdog was written off by fire in 2023. The current Underdog was previously named Ruffian was purchased in 2023. Ruffian had previously raced in over 30 mackinacs with a first in class finish by previous owner Bill Noakes. Anissa Noakes, Bill's daughter has been racing with the Underdog crew for over 10 years, as well Anissa has over 17 Bayview mackinacs on Underdog / Ruffian.

We purchased the boat from the previous ownership interest of Whistler Blackcomb in 2019. We have since replaced or renovated just about everything on the boat besides the name and graphic. The Taylor Brothers have been racing out of North Cape Yacht Club since 2017 racing on about everything from Thistles to larger offshore keelboats. This will be the boats 3rd Bayview Mac, the crew has pushed for a 3rd in the Double Handed division in 2023 and a 3rd fully crewed in 2024. Looking forward to how things will shape up in 2026.

Wind Toy IV is more than a boat—she is a home, a teacher, and a shared memory for four generations of sailors. Over 51 Mackinac Races, she has carried countless crews north, earning 10 first-place class finishes, one overall victory, and many second & third-place class victories and overall results along the way. She has helped create two Grand Rams and played a part in a third, but her greatest accomplishments aren’t found on a results sheet. Six Old Goats completed their Goat years aboard her familiar sea-foam-green decks, and many more sailors found confidence, friendships, and lifelong stories under her sails. For all who have raced her, Wind Toy IV represents teamwork, perseverance, and the simple joy of sailing—offering 4 generations the chance to experience one of the most memorable and enjoyable freshwater races in the world.
